Everyone has heard of the MICHELIN Guide, most famous for its MICHELIN Star awards for the world’s best restaurants.
In 2025, the MICHELIN Guide launched a new MICHELIN Keys award for the finest hotels in the world as listed in the guide. In this inaugural year, Indonesia’s best hotels have been awarded 33 MICHELIN Keys, including many of Bali’s top stays.

The new MICHELIN Keys has been described by The MICHELIN Guide as “the hotel equivalent of the MICHELIN Star for restaurants. First introduced over the past year in 15 countries across North America, Europe, and Asia, the 2025 MICHELIN Keys mark a new milestone for the distinction.”
The MICHELIN Guide has now unveiled its key selection for the best hotels across every region in the world. Like the MICHELIN Star awards for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys will be awarded across three distinction levels: One, Two, and Three.
Indonesia has been given the credit it deserves for being home to some of the best hotels in the world. An incredible 33 properties have been recognised by The MICHELIN Keys for their commitment to guest comfort, Indonesian culture, and the environment.
Three exquisite hotels have been awarded three MICHELIN Guide stars across Indonesia. These are Amanjiwo in Magelang, NIHI Sumba, which has been rated as the Best Hotel in the World not once but twice. On home soil, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, has also been awarded three keys by The MICHELIN Guide for an extraordinary stay.
In the two keys category, Bali is represented once again, with the blissful Amakila Bali, and Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, along with Raffles Bali. Nationwide Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, The Langham, Jakarta, and The Sanchaya in Bintan have also been awarded with two MICHIELN Keys.
In the world of the MICHELIN Guide, one key is a seriously impressive achievement, and in 2025, the guide awarded 17 one-key awards to hotels in Bali.
These include Amandari, Bisma Eight Ubud, Blue Karma Village, Bvlgari Resort, Capella Ubud, Chapung Sebali, COMO Shambhala Estate, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Lost Lindenberg, Nirjhara, REVIVO Wellness Resort Nusa Dua, Samsara Ubud, Soori, The Legian Seminyak, The Purist Villas & Spa, and Viceroy.
Nationwide, one key award has been given to Cap Karoso, Sumba, Carrya Bianti, Yogyakarta, Hotel Tugu Lombok, Raffles, Jakarta, and St Regis Jakarta.

Bali and its hotels are consistently ranked amongst the best in the world by the travel industry. Just last month, Bali reaffirmed its position as one of the world’s best tourism destinations at the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler’s Choice Awards 2025.
Bali scored an impressive 96.86 from Conde Nast readers and real travelers, putting the province in a clear first position. The 2025 awards were also a proud moment for Indonesia as a whole, as Lombok came in second place, scoring 94.86 with the esteemed travel awards.

The Indonesian national tourism board, Wonderful Indonesia, acknowledged the win with a celebratory social media post, sharing, “Bali has captured the world’s heart. Thousands of travelers have visited the Island of the Gods. And once they set foot here, Bali lingers forever in their souls. “
The tourism board added, “This is reflected in the nomination from Condé Nast Traveler, which crowned Bali the Best Island in Asia, making it the number 1 choice among European audiences. However, some reports placed Bali at number 6 by the U.S. audience, which is smaller in scale than Europe. A place where nature, culture, and wellness dance together in harmony. This is Bali, and it is calling you to come.”

2026 is set to be Bali’s biggest year on record for tourism, and the increasing number of tourism awards not only reflects the high-quality travel experiences on offer, but also reflects the never-ending demand and interest from global travellers in the Island of the Gods.
