Bali Airport Commits To Being More Accessible For Passengers

Bali Airport is one of the busiest airports in Indonesia. As the airport is set to welcome a record-breaking number of arrivals by the end of this year, airport teams are working to ensure the terminals are as accessible as possible.

Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has shared, “At I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, all service users are entitled to an equal and inclusive service.” Adding “From dedicated pathways, accessible restrooms, wheelchair service, to our always-ready officers, we’re here to support Bali Airport journeys.”

In a social media post, Bali Airport has shared more details about all the big and small efforts in place to help make the terminal buildings more accessible and inclusive to as wide a range of travellers as possible.

The first major accessibility step Bali Airport has taken is priority chairs, which have been in place for a few years now and have made a huge difference to countless travellers. Bali Airport shares, “To support the comfort of passengers with special needs, the elderly, and pregnant women, priority seating is available in the waiting area, which is easily accessible and close to other supporting facilities.”

The next accessibility initiative available at Bali Airport for both arriving and departing passengers is wheelchair services. As Bali Airport explains, “Wheelchair services are available for passengers requiring special assistance. Reservations can be made during ticket reservations or by contacting the airline.”

Disabled toilets are available throughout the domestic and international terminal buildings at Bali Airport. As Bali Airport shares, these accessible bathrooms are not only for those who have disabilities, noting “This restroom is intended for people with disabilities, but can also be used by passengers who require additional access or have mobility difficulties, such as pregnant women and the elderly.”

As an international airport, much of the signage and communications around the terminal buildings happen in English.

Menus at bars, restaurants, and eateries airside are all available in English, and both airport and airline staff are able to communicate with travelers in a number of languages, including Bahasa Indonesia, English, Mandarin, Arabic, and more. There is a special needs counter, known as Konter SNS, for those who need additional support of any kind while at the airport. 

Bali Airport explains, “This counter serves passengers with special needs, such as wheelchair requests and check-in assistance. Passengers can access these services directly at the airport.”

For those who need more space or a slow drop-off at the airport, there is a dedicated Drop-Off Zone at both the domestic and international terminal buildings.

Bali Airport shares, “This facility is provided in the departure terminal lobby area to disembark passengers with special needs. It is located near the entrance to facilitate passenger mobility.” 

Over in the domestic terminal building, a holding room is available for the passengers and fellow passengers in their group to wait for access to their priority and support services.

Bali Airport explains, “This special waiting room is available for passengers requiring priority service, such as the disabled, the elderly, and pregnant women awaiting boarding. It is also available for religious leaders. This facility is only available in the Domestic Terminal.”

Throughout the terminal buildings, there are aids for the visually impaired to help navigate the airport safely. These include guiding blocks in the outer areas of the terminal buildings. Bali Airport shares, “This facility is to facilitate the mobilization of airport service users with visual impairments to make it safer.”

As Bali Airport becomes busier, leaders are committed to ensuring that the terminal buildings remain as safe, comfortable, and accessible as possible to passengers. Tourists in need of support during their time at Bali Airport can contact their airline at check-in or approach staff at the Special Needs Support Counter to talk with the team about getting the right support.
