BALI – A total of 30 foreign nationals were issued traffic citations during a law enforcement operation conducted by the Badung Police in the Pererenan area of Mengwi District, Bali, on Thursday, May 2, 2025. The majority of the violations were for riding motorbikes without helmets, a basic safety requirement under Indonesian traffic law.
According to officers on duty, the operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, especially in tourist-heavy areas where traffic violations have been on the rise.
“We found many traffic violations committed by foreign tourists, particularly concerning the mandatory use of helmets,” a Badung traffic officer said at the scene. “This is a clear breach of the traffic law.”
In addition to not wearing helmets, several foreign riders were also found to be without valid international driving permits or complete vehicle documentation. Authorities confirmed that some motorbikes were confiscated due to administrative violations.
The operation was initiated in response to public complaints regarding the frequent disregard of traffic rules by foreign visitors in areas like Pererenan and Canggu. The police emphasized that Indonesian traffic laws apply to everyone, regardless of nationality.
“We want to make it clear that traffic rules must be followed by all, including tourists. There is no exemption,” the officer added.
Police stated that similar operations will continue regularly and that cooperation is also being sought from motorbike rental companies to educate foreign renters about local traffic regulations.
The 30 foreigners who were ticketed will be required to follow the official legal process, including paying applicable fines based on the type of violation committed.
