Singaraja Immigration Investigates Three Foreign Nationals Suspected of Managing a Villa

SINGARAJA – The Singaraja Immigration Office is investigating three foreign nationals suspected of misusing their residence permits. The three individuals are believed to be running an accommodation business despite only holding retirement visas or Limited Stay Permits (ITAS) for retirees.

Head of the Singaraja Class II Immigration Office, Hendra Setiawan, revealed that the suspected immigration violations came to light during the ‘Bali Becik’ operation, which took place from May 19 to 21, 2025. The operation was carried out by a task force targeting several lodging establishments.

During the operation, immigration officers monitored the presence of foreigners in the Buleleng, Jembrana, and Karangasem regencies. While conducting surveillance in Karangasem, officers found three foreign nationals allegedly violating their stay permits.

“During this operation, we identified three Australian nationals suspected of misusing their residence permits. We are currently conducting further investigation. Preliminary findings suggest they have been managing a villa in Karangasem, even though they are only holding retirement KITAS,” Hendra said on Sunday (May 25).

He explained that the retirement KITAS is granted to elderly foreign nationals, generally used to enjoy their retirement in Indonesia. Holders of this visa are not allowed to engage in any income-generating activities, including employment or business.

“Upon further investigation, it appears they have been managing a villa. Since they are on a visit or retirement permit, they are not allowed to earn income. All three individuals are over 60 years old. They should be here to rest, not to run a business,” Hendra stated.

This investigation is based on initial findings by Singaraja Immigration officers, who are currently examining social media posts and gathering statements from guests who have stayed at the villa allegedly managed by the foreigners.

“We are still collecting evidence while monitoring their activities. This includes information from social media and former guests regarding how the villa is being promoted,” he added.

Hendra emphasized that if the three foreigners are proven to have violated their stay permits, they will face deportation. “If there is sufficient evidence of a violation, they will certainly be deported,” he asserted.
