Bali’s Penglipuran Village has been setting the standard for tourism destination in Bali, and worldwide, for more than a decade.
As the winner of the UN World Tourism Organisation’s Best Tourism Village in the World, the team behind the attraction and residential community knows a thing or two about how to make an attraction worth visiting.
Penglipuran Village has just raised the bar for tourism attractions in Bali and around Indonesia once again. Penglipuran Village has just started providing safety insurance for visiting tourists at no additional cost.
Speaking to reporters, Wayan Sumiarsa, the Head of Penglipuran Tourism Village Management, explained, “Insurance is now included in the ticket. With this additional insurance, tourists will no longer be charged additional fees when visiting Penglipuran.”
He explained how safety insurance has become a necessity in tourist attractions (DTW), especially Penglipuran Tourism Village, which sees an average of 2,000 visitors per day.
Sumiarsa shared, “All tourists visiting Penglipuran should receive safety protection with this insurance, as our roads are somewhat risky, and this is also our effort to improve our service as an additional service.” The entrance fees remain the same and will remain so until at least the end of 2026. The cost for Indonesian citizens is IDR 15,000 for children and IDR 25,000 for adults, and for international tourists, entry fees are set at IDR 30,000 for children and IDR 50,000 for adults.
Speaking to the Secretary of insurance provider PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Jasindo), Brellian Gema said that in this collaboration, the company is providing Personal Accident protection included in entrance ticket costs.
The cover includes compensation for death due to accidents up to IDR 50 million per visitor, compensation for permanent disability (total or partial) up to IDR 50 million, reimbursement of medical expenses due to accidents up to IDR 5 million, transportation due to accidents up to IDR 1 million, and hospitalization compensation of IDR 150 thousand per day (maximum 5 days).
The insurance is valid for 1 x 24-hour period or as long as the visitor is in Penglipuran Tourism Village.
Gema noted, “With this approach, protection is no longer an optional extra, but rather an essential part of every travel experience.”
Penglipuran Village has also bought in a ticket system management company, PT Mitra Kasih Perkasa (MKP), into the collaboration.
Nicholas Anggada, PT MKP CEO and Co-Founder, told reporters this partnership is a further step in developing a safer and more integrated digital tourism ecosystem in Penglipuran Village.
He said, “This year marks the fourth year that MKP has been entrusted with managing the Penglipuran Village ticketing system holistically. We see that today’s tourists need more than just ease of transactions and access, but also a sense of security while at the tourist destination.”
Penglipuran Village is Bali’s most famous tourism village and can be found in Bangli Regency. The village is famous for being the only pedestrianised village remaining in Bali, and during a visit, tourists can meet community members whose families have lived in the village for generations.
Penglipuran Village is also surrounded by the ancient bamboo forest, access to which is included in the village entry ticket.
Tourists who want to dive deeper during their visit and learn more about the unique culture of Penglipuran Village and the wider province of Bali have plenty of opportunities to do so. A limited number of homestay rooms are available for guests who wish to stay overnight.
It is also possible to book an antique breakfast, which is served on tables on the pedestrian path that leads through the heart of the village before the gates open to the public. It’s a real treat, certainly a unique Bali bucket list experience!
