Police in Bali have confirmed that they are conducting a series of spot checks on tourist vehicles in order to ensure safety across the island.
The Bali Transportation Agency will be conducting spot checks on tourist taxis and tourist transport vehicles across Badung Regency.

Baudng Regency is home to Bali’s leading tourism resorts, including Uluwatu, Canggu, Seminyak, Nusa Dua, Kuta, and Legian. On Tuesday, 29th July, officers from the Bali Transportation Agency pulled over dozens of tourist vehicles in the Badung area, and more spot checks are anticipated to be conducted in the coming weeks.
The Head of the Road Transportation Division of the Bali Transportation Agency, Nyoman Sunarya, told reporters, “In Badung Regency, we are monitoring public passenger and freight transportation, especially tourism transportation heading to tourist destinations.”
The spot checks are being carried out as a response to the Decree of the Governor of Bali Number 292/03-G/HK/2025 concerning the Guidance and Supervision Team for Public Passenger and Goods Transportation in Bali Province.
Sunarya confirmed that during the first day of the spot checks, 20 violations were identified that resulted in drivers receiving tickets. Almost all of which were tourist vehicles. The Bali Transportation Agency also identified a number of private cars being used for tourism purposes without the correct tourist transport licences and permits.
Sunarya explained, “The inspection found that 10 vehicles used for tourism were unlicensed, six vehicles had their vehicle registrations not renewed, and four others had committed goods transportation violations.”
He confirmed that in the instances where tourist vehicles and tourism drivers were found to be committing violations, the ticking process did not impact onward travel for tourists. He noted that “[They] were allowed to continue carrying passengers, then they were given a ticket and a warning and asked immediately to process the permit.”
Sunarya confirmed that these spot checks on tourism vehicles will continue in Badung Regency for at least the next month. Tourists may find themselves in a vehicle that is pulled over by Bali Transportation Agency officers or Bali Police Traffic Officers as part of the operation, but they are strictly interested in the driver and the vehicle.
Sunarya noted that the Bali Transportation Office does not believe that the process for taxi drivers and tour guides to apply for the correct licenses is too difficult or hard to understand. The Bali Transportation Agency will not be honouring this as a reason not to have the correct permits for driving tourists around the island or offering taxi services.

Sunarya told reporters, “Continuing, especially in Badung, the team will regularly conduct guidance and supervision in the Bali region to ensure safety, security, and comfort. And ensure public passenger and freight vehicles operate in an orderly manner according to regulations.”
The updates from the Bali Transportation Agency come just days after Bali Police have conducted a series of visits to tourist taxi drivers in the South Kuta area.
Over the weekend, Bali Police visited independent taxi drivers operating around the Dalem Lamun Temple parking lot, ITDC Nusa Dua area, and within Benoa Village.

The operation was led by the South Kuta Police Chief, Commissioner I Komang Agus Dharmayana W, who spoke with reporters after the visit.
He shared, “We hope that taxi drivers will maintain public order and security, especially in tourist areas. We must avoid any friction between conventional and online taxi drivers. All parties must respect each other and maintain professionalism in providing services to tourists.”

Adding “Let’s work together to protect the good name of Bali tourism. If any tourists behave inappropriately or cause a disturbance, please report it immediately to the police. Our team is ready to act quickly.”
