A 69-year-old French tourist, Diaz Bernard, was found dead floating in the waters off Batu Bolong Beach, Canggu, North Kuta, Bali, on Thursday afternoon, May 15, 2025. The victim is believed to have drowned after being caught in a strong current while swimming in the area.
According to police spokesman Ipda I Putu Sukarma, the man was first seen floating approximately 50 meters from the shore by several beach visitors, who immediately shouted for help. A local man, Gede Sugeng, who works nearby, responded and swam out to reach the victim.
Upon reaching him, Sugeng checked for a pulse but found none. He then signaled for help, and with the assistance of other beachgoers, managed to bring the lifeless body back to shore. Bystanders attempted basic resuscitation techniques, but the victim did not respond.
The man was transported to the nearest clinic around 1:00 PM local time, where he was officially declared dead. Authorities have contacted the French consulate to coordinate further steps regarding the victim’s identity and repatriation.
