BADUNG, Bali — Seventeen foreigners were deported from Bali between Sept. 8 and 18, with Australians making up the largest nationality group, the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office said Thursday.
Of the 17 foreign nationals, 10 were deported under Article 75(1) of Indonesia’s Immigration Law over activities authorities said disrupted security and public order.
“Of the 10 foreign nationals, the largest number came from Australia, with four people,” Ngurah Rai Immigration Office head Muhammad Novyandri said.
One of the Australians, identified by the initials BA, had previously gone viral on social media over what authorities described as indecent behavior outside a resident’s home. Badung Police later recommended BA for deportation.
Two other Australians were found to have misused their visit permits by working as a director and a commissioner at a company.
Another Australian, identified as JSM, held a limited stay permit, or ITAS, and was suspected of misusing the permit by holding multiple positions and carrying out activities at a company where the individual no longer held an official position.
JSM was deported through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Sept. 11.
The remaining seven foreign nationals were deported after overstaying their permits by more than 60 days, in violation of Article 78(3) of the Immigration Law.
They included two Dutch nationals and one national each from Britain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Ukraine.
Novyandri said immigration authorities routinely conduct patrols to ensure foreign nationals are staying and carrying out activities in accordance with Indonesian immigration regulations.
He said foreigners found violating immigration rules would be processed in accordance with existing regulations.
