Dutch National Found Dead at Home in Padangbai, Bali

KARANGASEM — A Dutch national, Hans Sluiman (69), was found dead in his bedroom on the second floor of his residence in Dusun Mimba, Padangbai Village, Manggis District, Karangasem Regency, Bali, on Monday, April 7, 2025. Authorities have ruled out foul play based on an initial investigation.

Commissioner I Nyoman Merta Kariana, Head of the Padangbai Port Police Sector, confirmed the incident and stated that Sluiman was discovered in a state of undress, lying on his bed.

“Indeed, the victim was found deceased in the bedroom on the second floor of the house where he resided,” Kariana said in a public statement.

According to police, Sluiman had not responded to multiple attempts by his personal doctor to make contact on Sunday, April 6. Concerned, the doctor—who had been treating Sluiman for chronic heart enlargement and lung-related conditions—decided to visit the residence the following day.

Accompanied by one of Sluiman’s relatives, the doctor entered the house and was shocked to find him unresponsive. They immediately reported the situation to local authorities.

“An initial examination revealed no signs of violence. The victim was found naked, with visible signs of post-mortem lividity and rigor mortis, indicating that he had been deceased for more than two hours prior to discovery,” Kariana explained.

The body has been transported to Karangasem General Hospital for further examination. Police believe the cause of death was likely due to natural health complications, though a final conclusion awaits the hospital’s full assessment.

Local authorities extended their condolences to Sluiman’s family and emphasized that they will continue to monitor the case until all medical examinations are complete.
