Afternoon tea in Bali takes on a Nikkei twist at TENKAI Japanese Nikkei Restaurant in Padma Resort Legian, where guests can discover A Nikkei Tea Journey, bringing together savoury and sweet bites inspired by Japanese and Peruvian flavours, paired with a selection of Japanese teas.
Created for two, the experience presents TENKAI’s Nikkei cuisine in an afternoon tea format, highlighting the restaurant’s blend of Japanese culinary traditions and Peruvian influences.
The savoury selection features Ceviche Roll, Crispy Hambagu, Buta Nigiri, Kamo Gyoza, Maki Furai and Ebi Anticucho. Each bite reflects TENKAI’s Japanese-Peruvian approach. The Ceviche Roll combines the freshness of Peruvian ceviche with Japanese-inspired presentation, while Ebi Anticucho reinterprets the Peruvian tradition of anticuchos through a Japanese Nikkei lens. Crispy Hambagu and Buta Nigiri add familiar Japanese-inspired flavours, complemented by the textures of Kamo Gyoza and Maki Furai.
The sweet selection includes Yuzu Tartlet, Sweet Potato Mochi and Cacao Chocoteja. The bright citrus character of yuzu brings freshness to the tartlet, while sweet potato mochi offers a soft, delicate bite. Inspired by the traditional Peruvian chocoteja, the Cacao Chocoteja finishes the selection with a rich chocolate note.
The experience includes a choice of Japanese teas, from delicate green teas to warmer roasted varieties. Emperor Sencha offers a classic green tea profile, while Genmaicha combines Japanese green tea with roasted brown rice. Geisha Blossom features peach and marigold notes, and Sakura! Sakura! offers a delicate floral character inspired by cherry blossom. For a deeper, toastier option, Hojicha brings the distinctive roasted flavour of Japanese green tea. Coffee is also available as an alternative accompaniment.
A Nikkei Tea Journey offers a different perspective on afternoon tea in Bali, moving beyond the traditional format to showcase TENKAI’s Japanese-Peruvian culinary identity. The combination of Nikkei-inspired bites and Japanese teas provides an introduction to the flavours and character of TENKAI.
Available daily at TENKAI Japanese Nikkei Restaurant in Legian, A Nikkei Tea Journey requires a minimum of four hours’ advance reservation. For those seeking afternoon tea in Legian or a Japanese afternoon tea in Bali, the experience offers a distinctive selection of afternoon tea, made for sharing.
