Indonesia is celebrating Eid al-Fitr 1446H with a four-day national holiday. The Lebaran public holiday will be observed until 4th April. It is a time for families all over Indonesia to come together, travel, and explore the country, and many thousands of people are heading to Bali.

Bali will welcome tens of thousands more domestic tourists in the coming days. Travel figures from the end of last week, which sparked the beginning of the Lebaran travel period, show that there are even more people on the move between Bali and Java than last year.

Buses, ferries, and air services have all been in higher demand than usual, and Mengwi Transport Terminal Supervisor Ardani Nirwesthi explained to reporters that all staff are available to support travellers moving throughout Bali over the coming days.

Key traffic congestion areas include the resorts of Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, and Kuta, as Uluwatu, Ubud, and the surrounding villages, Sanur Port, Bali Airport, and the Denpasar-Gilimanuk Highway, leading to Gilimanuk Harbour.

For international tourists, it is super important to leave extra time to travel to and from Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. When Bali Airport reopened after Nyepi Day on 30th March 2025, the terminals served 73,000 passengers across 390 flights.

Over the national holiday period, there are more domestic flight services available, and irrespective of the high and low seasons, Bali Airport is welcoming more flight international and domestic flight services every month.

Speaking to reporters, the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, explained that so far everything has been flowing smoothly, and the situation is expected to stay that way.

He noted, “This is thanks to the support of all relevant agencies involved in the Eid transportation post. Airport operations, especially during the peak homecoming period, have been running smoothly and under control.”

He added,d “With the extended Eid holiday period, we will continue to strengthen coordination and enhance supervision to ensure the quality of service for passengers remains optimal. Besides the homecoming flow, the airport is also expected to remain busy with tourists heading to Bali for vacations.”

Tourists must always leave more time than they think to travel to Bali Airport, this is because traffic is notoriously congested around the airport terminals and with tens of thousands more vehicles on the road this holiday season with the influx of overloading domestic tourists, traffic officers are working around the clock to ensure vehicles are kept on the move, but congestion is inevitable.

Tourists in Bali can expect to meet more crowds at the island’s top cultural attractions and natural landscapes.

Indonesian tourists love Bali as a travel destination just as much as international holidaymakers, and top attractions like Tanah Lot Temple, Tirta Empul Temple, and the beaches of the central southern coast, from Uluwatu, through Jimbaran, and onwards to Canggu, are all expected to feel extra busy.

As one of Indonesia’s most important cultural attractions, Penglipuran Village in Bali’s Bangli Regency will be particularly busy this week. Penglipuran Village is considered to be a must-visit for all tourists but is deemed particularly important for domestic tourists who want to connect with the country’s hugely diverse cultural heritage.

Penglipuran Village is one of the finest examples of a traditional Balinese village and is still entirely pedestrianized. Penglipuran Village is surrounded by ancient bamboo forests and offers tourists the chance to experience the traditional Balinese way of life.

Many tourists visit Penglipuran Village in the early morning to avoid the crowds, but visiting in the late afternoon generally offers visitors a little more peace and quiet.

For a truly authentic and intimate experience of Penglipuran Village, tourists can book an overnight stay at one of the local homestays within the village and make the most of the more personal tourism programs which include a local dinner served on tables in the street.
