Police have been deployed at Canggu’s top tourist beach for the next few days. This week marks Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri in Indonesia.

While Bali is a predominantly Balinese Hindu province, the Islamic holiday is observed as a public holiday nationwide, with millions of families traveling nationwide to celebrate the occasion.

North Kuta, which includes top tourist destinations like Canggu, will be feeling a little extra busy this weekend. Not only due to the Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri holiday, which was observed on Wednesday and Thursday, but also the peak travel season in Bali is getting started.

Typically, the peak season in Bali is June, July, and August, with Monday marked as the 1st of June; the peak season is starting a touch early this year.

To help keep the public safe, the North Kuta Police have tightened security in the Berawa Beach tourist area. Over the next few days, increased routine patrols will be carried out by the North Kuta Police’s Samapta Unit, led by Acting Chief of Unit 1 Samapta, Aiptu I Wayan Mendra.

Officers will patrol the beach area and provide public order and security awareness messages to visitors, parking attendants, and local security officers.

Mendra told reporters how officers will be reminding visitors to be more vigilant against crime, especially motor vehicle and helmet theft. Visitors are asked to ensure their vehicle keys are not left inside their motorcycles in the parking lot. Police officers are also reminding tourists to avoid activities in beach areas marked with red flags.

In the last few weeks, Bali Lifeguard Units have attended intensive training courses to ensure their skills are up to scratch, and while lifeguards will be on duty, no one wants to be in a position where their support is called upon.

Speaking to reporters, North Kuta Police Chief, Commissioner I Ketut Sukadana, said that intensive patrols are being carried out to provide a sense of security and comfort to the public and international tourists vacationing in the coastal area.

He shared, “We urge visitors to always be careful when carrying valuables and to ensure their vehicles are securely parked. We also ask parking attendants and security personnel to increase supervision in the parking area.”

Commissioner Sukadana noted that areas like Berawa Beach are amongst the busiest with both domestic and international tourists during the long holiday period. He shared his hopes that the presence of police on the ground will be expected to prevent crime.

He concluded, “We hope the public can enjoy a safe and comfortable holiday atmosphere when visiting tourist areas within the jurisdiction of the North Kuta Police.”

Tourist safety is a big concern for travelers right now. With geopolitical conflicts around the world impacting travel decisions, as well as safety on the streets, it would be easy to think that there is nowhere safe left in the world if you scrolled too far down the social media feed.

In Bali, leaders are working around the clock to ensure public safety, including the safety of international tourists.

Right now, Bali’s Traveler Safety Index reading sits at 75/100. The Bali Traveler Safety Index is a tool we created in partnership with Travel Off Path to aggregate real-time safe ratings from travelers on the ground. We use a Hybrid Verification Model, which calculates real-time sentiment based on recency, and every single data trend is subject to a Mandatory 24-Hour Editorial Audit.

Of the 133 reports logged by Bali tourists in the last 30 days, by far the most reported safety concern has been scams. A total of 76 scams have been recorded on the Bali Traveler Safety Index. Scams in Bali range from overcharging for goods and services, through to the famous money exchange scam, to full-blown fraud.

These reports are concerning, and tourists who are victims of a crime in Bali, however big or small the offence, must file a report with Bali Police as quickly as possible. Bali Police can be contacted on 112.

These scores must be kept in context, and it is important to note that millions of domestic and international tourists visit Bali each month without any concerns for safety or problems at all, which is why Bali is the number one destination in the world, as named by TripAdvisor, in 2026.
