BANGLI, Bali — Authorities in Bali are investigating a Facebook video showing an American national advertising a 54-are plot of land in Kintamani, as officials seek to verify the authenticity of the listing and the account behind it.
The video, uploaded by a Facebook account called Sellingkintamani, features the man promoting a property overlooking the Mount Batur Caldera. Text displayed in the video reads, “54 ARE OF LAND FOR SALE IN KINTAMANI, BALI.”
The post has attracted attention because foreigners advertising or facilitating property transactions in Bali may raise questions about whether their activities are consistent with the terms of their visa or stay permit.
I Nyoman Murditha, head of Bangli’s Communication, Informatics, Encryption and Statistics Agency (Diskominfosan), said authorities are verifying both the authenticity of the listing and whether the land featured in the video actually exists.
Officials are also examining the account behind the post to determine whether it represents a genuine property offering or misleading online content.
“If the land cannot be verified, the account could be fake. We are still investigating the purpose behind the video,” Murditha said on Friday.
He added that the Facebook account has already been reported.
The Bangli administration also plans to strengthen social media monitoring through its cyber team to detect content that may involve potential violations, particularly those related to foreign nationals operating in the regency.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the property listing is genuine or whether any laws have been breached. The investigation remains ongoing.
