NUSA PENIDA, Bali — A 29-year-old Australian woman died after falling from a cliff at Kelingking Beach in Nusa Penida, Klungkung, on Saturday morning, September 12.
The victim, identified as Cronin Brianna Lani, was reportedly found stranded on the southern side of the Kelingking Beach cliff at around 8 a.m. WITA.
Klungkung Police Public Relations Officer Iptu I Dewa Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa confirmed the incident.
According to police, a beach guard identified as INJ, 41, was alerted by tourists about a foreign national who appeared to be stranded on the cliff.
INJ went to check the information and confirmed that a foreign woman was stranded on the southern section of the cliff. He then contacted another person, identified as INP, 42, to request assistance.
However, while help was being arranged, the woman fell from the cliff and landed near the shoreline.
“When the victim fell to the beach, she was found already deceased,” Alit said in a statement on Saturday.
Personnel from Nusa Penida Police and the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) subsequently carried out the evacuation by land, transporting the victim by ambulance to Griya Medica Clinic in Banjar Nyuh, Ped Village.
A medical examination found that the victim had suffered a fractured left arm, a leg fracture, a laceration to her right leg and multiple injuries caused by contact with rocks along the cliff.
The victim remained at Griya Medica Clinic as of Saturday afternoon. Police said she was expected to be transferred to Gema Santi Hospital while awaiting further arrangements by the Australian Embassy.
Police have not released further details about what caused the woman to become stranded on the cliff or the circumstances leading to her fall.
