Security operations are ramping up at Bali’s top tourism destinations. Bali Police and Bali Immigration work around the clock to keep everyone safe. This includes keeping tourists safe from crime and preventing tourists from committing criminal offences.
In light of a report of a mugging targeting a Malaysian citizen on Jalan Pangkung Sari, Kerobokan Village near Seminyak and Canggu on Sunday 13th September 2026, the North Kuta Police have increased patrols. Security has been tightened, especially in areas frequented by residents and tourists.
It has been confirmed that the North Kuta Police’s Samapta Unit conducted a patrol on Jalan Pantai Berawa, in Canggu early Sunday morning. The patrol was led by Supervisory Officer (Pawas) Ipda Gusti Made Sardika and several other personnel.
Police traveled along Jalan Pantai Berawa, monitoring the situation and directing traffic. Officers also stood guard at several locations and engaged in dialogue with the public.
Speaking to reporters, North Kuta Police Chief Commissioner I Ketut Sukadana stated that the patrols were a preventative measure to prevent crime targeting both the public and tourists. The police presence also served to maintain order and facilitate the smooth flow of public activities at night.
He shared, “We routinely carry out these activities to prevent snatching and other crimes. We hope the police presence on the ground will provide a deterrent effect and provide a sense of security to the public.”
Police Commissioner Sukadana added that similar patrols will continue to be intensified in several locations of concern in the popular tourist resort areas. He also urged the public to actively report crimes to the police for prompt action.
Adding, “We ask the public to also play an active role in maintaining environmental security.” Bali Police can be contacted on 110.
It is not only crimes against tourists that Bali Police are looking to crack down on, but tourists breaking the law too. Over the weekend, CCTV footage showing two foreign nationals allegedly stealing money from a grocery seller in Tabanan Regency has gone viral on social media.
The victim, I Made S, 52, lost IDR 800,000 in cash during the incident. It is reported that two of the foreigners worked to distract Made, while the others nabbed the cash. The incident occurred at the victim’s grocery store in Banjar Dinas Bajera Jero, Bajera Village, on Friday 18th September, in the late afternoon.
Selemadeg Police Chief, Commissioner I Made Subadi, confirmed the incident, telling reporters, “It’s true that the incident occurred on Friday afternoon. We learned the chronology after receiving information from the public and the circulating footage.”
According to the victim, the incident began when two foreign nationals came to his shop to buy IDR 5,000 worth of granulated sugar, speaking in English. After the transaction, one of the foreign nationals asked for an IDR 100,000 note. Due to a language barrier, the shopkeeper initially thought the suspect was trying to exchange the money for IDR 10,000 notes. He then took out several IDR 10,000, IDR 20,000, and IDR 50,000 notes, but the foreigner didn’t choose any of them.
While the shopkeeper was distracted, the suspect is reported to have taken several IDR 50,000 and IDR 100,000 bills from the victim’s bag. Police are also investigating allegations that the two foreign nationals have committed similar acts in other locations. PC Subadi told reporters, “We are investigating information regarding alleged similar acts in other areas. We urge anyone who believes they have been victims of a similar modus operandi to report it immediately to the nearest police station.”
As ever, Bali Immigration is hot to identify foreigners who are abusing their visas and breaking immigration law. On Friday 18th September, a French citizen with the initials YGB, 22, surrendered to the Denpasar Class I Immigration Office after his Indonesian residency permit expired. YGB had overstayed for 100 days before being deported via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
The Head of the Class I TPI Denpasar Immigration Office, R Haryo Sakti, said YGB was subject to Administrative Immigration Action in the form of deportation for violating his residence permit. This violation refers to Article 78 paragraph (3) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.
Speaking to reporters, Ramdhani, Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, expressed his appreciation for the Denpasar Immigration Office’s actions.
He emphasized that any violations committed by foreign nationals will be handled in accordance with applicable law. He shared, “Immigration will continue to be present in the community through consistent oversight and measured law enforcement. Every effort is aimed at providing a sense of security and safeguarding the public’s interests, as a concrete manifestation of Immigration’s commitment to the people.”
