French Man Attacked With Knife at Bali Villa After Music Dispute

TEJAKULA, Bali — A French national was stabbed at a villa in northern Bali after a dispute over loud music escalated into a violent confrontation, police said on Monday, November 2.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, October 29, at a villa in Bukiang hamlet, Les village, Tejakula district, Buleleng regency. The victim, identified as Ancel Lucas, suffered a stab wound approximately 10 centimeters deep on the right side of his abdomen.

Buleleng Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ruzi Gusman said the confrontation stemmed from an earlier disagreement on October 26, when the Frenchman complained about music being played at a high volume by a man identified by the initials GAS.

According to police, the suspect was offended by the way the complaint was delivered. Although the initial disagreement had occurred three days earlier, investigators said the suspect became upset about it again while attending a friend’s wedding celebration on October 29.

Police said the man had been drinking alcohol with friends before taking a kitchen knife and heading to the villa where Lucas was staying.

Upon arriving, he allegedly called for the Frenchman to come outside. Lucas’s girlfriend initially emerged from the villa before Lucas followed, leading to a verbal confrontation.

The argument escalated when the suspect allegedly stabbed Lucas in the abdomen with the knife he had brought. Police said the victim attempted to wrestle the weapon away before the attacker fled and returned home.

Lucas was taken to Kertha Usada Hospital in Buleleng for medical treatment. Tejakula Police Chief Gede Darma Diatmika said on November 2 that the Frenchman’s condition had improved and that he had recovered from his injuries.

Police Question Delay in Reporting Attack

Although the stabbing occurred on October 29, police said they only learned about the incident on Sunday, November 1, after receiving information from hospital personnel.

Ruzi expressed concern that the villa management had not reported the attack immediately, saying delayed reports could hinder police investigations and the collection of evidence.

Authorities said they would examine whether anyone who knew about the incident had deliberately failed to notify police.

The suspect, identified as GAS, has since been detained at Buleleng Police headquarters for further legal proceedings.

Police urged residents and accommodation operators to promptly report suspected criminal incidents to ensure authorities can respond and investigate without unnecessary delays.
