North Bali is having a moment in 2026!

Here at The Bali Sun, we are big fans of North Bali and recommend this region of the island to just about anyone who will listen to us talk about it for long enough!

The regional capital of Singaraja is about to welcome a new tourist landscape, and it’s certainly worth visiting.

Singaraja was for many years the official provincial capital of Bali. While the provincial capital is now Denpasar, Singaraja still plays an important role in modern life in Bali and holds many of the island’s heritage sites.

It is fair to say that not many tourists visit Singaraja, which we here at The Bali Sun find a real shame. This is an ancient city home to some of Bali’s most important history, and it has a wealth of cultural gems to explore if you scratch just beneath the surface.

Singaraja is currently seeing the construction of the Singaraja Zero Point Area that is set for completion on the 12th July.  The project’s Quantity Surveyor, Bintang Jaka Pratama Afriansyah, told reporters that this area will become the new face of Singaraja City as well as a center of community activities and a beautiful public space.

He shared “The work that has been completed includes structural work, painting, installation of andesite stone, roof tiles, as well as the shrine and fence.

Afriansyah explained to reporters that the development of the Singaraja Zero Point Area comprises two main buildings, the first of which is the Laksmi Graha Building and the gallery building, each of which has a different function to support community and local government activities.

He shared that the Laksmi Graha building will be used to support the activities of the Buleleng Regency Family Welfare Movement (PKK) and that the gallery building will be optimized as a meeting space and joint exhibition area.

The area is also home to an impressive Garuda statue, which is a landmark in its own right that now complements the Singaraja Zero Point Area.

Afriansyah told reporters that, in addition to beautifying the city layout, the existence of Singaraja Zero Point is projected to open up space for community economic empowerment through the involvement of the local small and medium-sized businesses. He explained, “In the future, MSMEs will be able to participate during the exhibition. The goal is, of course, to empower MSMEs in Buleleng Regency.”

The project is getting a thumbs up from local residents, too. Speaking to reporters, Komang Sukemi also expressed support for the development project.

He shared that he feels the new icons will boost tourism in North Bali. He shared,” I personally support the development of the Singaraja Zero Point area because it will make the city more organized and attractive for gatherings of residents and tourists.” Adding “If managed well, the Titik Nol area could become a center of community activities and increase Singaraja’s attractiveness in the future.”

While tourists will have to wait until mid-July to explore the new Singaraja Zero Point Area, there are still plenty of attractions to explore in the northern city.

North Bali is home to a number of stunning Buddhist Temples, more than those found in the south. Bali is a majority Balinese Hindu province, but Buddhism is a prevalent faith across Indonesia.

The Ling Gwan Kiong Buddhist Temple in Singaraja in North Bali is one of the most impressive Buddhist temples on the island and is a must-visit for culturally curious tourists.

The temple is open to worshippers and respectful visitors and reopened its doors in August 2025 after a huge renovation and restoration project that took a year to complete and an investment of IDR 3.4 billion.
