This is a 10-day Balinese Hindu festival. During Galungan, Balinese Hindus believe that their gods and ancestral spirits descend to Earth to dwell with them. The streets are beautifully decorated with ‘penjor’ – tall, curved bamboo poles adorned with coconut leaves, signifying prosperity and joy. Families engage in rituals, offering prayers and food to the gods and spirits, and visiting temples is a significant part of the celebrations.

It marks the last day of the Galungan festival. This day is particularly celebrated with grandeur, especially at the Sakenan Temple on Serangan Island. Kuningan is considered a time to honor the ancestral spirits, who are believed to return to heaven on this day. Special offerings made from yellow rice (symbolizing prosperity) are prepared, and prayers are offered for the departing spirits.
