DENPASAR, Bali – Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport launched a security response after receiving an electronic bomb threat on Sunday night, with authorities later determining the alert was not credible and confirming that airport operations were never disrupted.
Airport officials said the electronic threat was received at 9:58 p.m. WITA on August 2, prompting the Airport Security Committee and relevant agencies to immediately implement standard operating procedures for handling aviation security threats.
Following a thorough investigation, authorities found no evidence to substantiate the information contained in the message.
“Based on the results of further investigation, no indication was found that the information received by the airport was credible,” said Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, Head of Communication and Legal Division at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The airport confirmed that all flights and airport services continued to operate safely and normally throughout the incident.
“Flight operations and airport services at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport remained safe, smooth, and under control,” Eka Sandi said.
Airport management urged passengers and the public to remain calm and refrain from sharing unverified information related to security threats.
“As the airport operator, we remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of airport operations,” Eka Sandi said. “We also urge the public and airport users not to make jokes, create, or spread false information regarding bomb threats or any other security threats at the airport.”
The airport reminded the public that making or disseminating false bomb threats or other security-related hoaxes is a violation of Indonesian law and may result in legal sanctions.
Ngurah Rai Airport, one of Indonesia’s busiest international gateways and a designated national vital object, operates under strict aviation security procedures in accordance with national regulations.
Airport management said it would continue coordinating with relevant authorities and provide updates through its official communication channels if necessary.
