A Polish tourist who went missing after swimming at a beach in Jembrana has been found dead, with his body discovered on another beach several kilometres away.
Marcin Dawid Ryzycki was identified as the man whose body was found at Air Kuning Beach, Jembrana, on Wednesday (September 2), three days after he was reported missing from Tembles Beach.
Jembrana Police said the identification was based on the victim’s physical characteristics, personal belongings and information from people who knew him.
Police Chief AKBP Cheery Sinta Maygrand Simamora said the identification was carried out by the police identification team, medical staff from Negara Hospital and witnesses, including Ryzycki’s Japanese friend, identified by the initials TN.
“Based on his physical characteristics, the accessories he was wearing and information from his friend, we believe he was the person who drowned at Tembles Beach,” Cheery said on Wednesday.
Ryzycki was reported missing on Sunday evening (August 30) after entering the sea at Tembles Beach in Penyaringan Village, Mendoyo.
Police said Ryzycki arrived at a yoga facility near the beach with TN at around 6pm. About an hour later, he took off his clothes and went into the sea to swim, while his friend stayed at the yoga facility.
He had not returned by around 9pm.
Staff at the facility then searched for him along the coastline that night, but found no sign of him.
His body was later discovered at Air Kuning Beach, ending the search for the missing tourist.
Police are coordinating with the relevant authorities, the Polish consulate and Ryzycki’s family regarding the handling of his remains and arrangements for repatriation.
