Flights to and from Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport have been affected by increased volcanic activity from Mount Anak Krakatau, with several services to Jakarta cancelled or rescheduled on Sunday, September 6.
As of 10 a.m. local time, 17 flights had been affected, according to Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, Head of the Communication and Legal Division at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
“Following the increase in volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau, a number of flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport have been cancelled and/or had their schedules adjusted,” Gede said on Sunday.
The affected services include flights operated by Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, TransNusa, Citilink and Pelita Air on routes between Bali and Jakarta.
Despite the disruption, airport operations at Ngurah Rai remain normal, with passenger services continuing as usual.
PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) and AirNav Indonesia are continuing to monitor the airspace affected by volcanic activity and coordinate with airlines and other relevant agencies.
The airport has also prepared service recovery arrangements for passengers whose flights have been affected and who are already at the terminal.
Passengers travelling through Ngurah Rai are being advised to check directly with their airline for the latest flight status and schedule changes before leaving for the airport.
The disruption comes as Mount Anak Krakatau continues to show increased volcanic activity, with volcanic ash affecting parts of Indonesia’s airspace. Flight disruptions have also been reported at several other airports, highlighting the wider impact of the eruption on air travel.
For travellers in Bali, however, Ngurah Rai International Airport remains open and operational, although passengers on affected routes are advised to allow for possible changes to their travel plans.
