An Australian man who was previously detained at Bali’s airport over a viral incident involving alleged sexual activity at a resident’s property in Berawa has been deported from Indonesia and banned from returning for 10 years.
The man, identified by Indonesian authorities as BA, was deported on Tuesday night (8 September 2026) on a Batik Air flight from Denpasar to Brisbane.
Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Muhamad Novyandri, confirmed the deportation on Wednesday.
“The deportation of BA was carried out on Tuesday night using a Batik Air flight on the Denpasar-Brisbane route,” Novyandri said.
BA, an Australian national born in 1998, was intercepted by immigration officers at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on 25 August as he was preparing to board a flight to Brisbane.
Immigration officers found that he was in Indonesia on a Visa on Arrival (VOA).
BA was subsequently handed over to Badung Police for further processing in connection with the incident at a property on Jalan Pantai Berawa, Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung.
After completing its investigation, Badung Police recommended that BA be deported and returned him to the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office on 26 August.
The deportation follows a case that attracted widespread attention on social media after a video appeared showing a couple believed to be foreign nationals allegedly engaging in sexual activity at a resident’s property in Berawa.
The incident reportedly took place at around 6.29pm on 21 August and began circulating widely on social media the following afternoon.
The incident was initially noticed by a 47-year-old laundry worker, identified by the initials NKW, who reportedly encountered the couple while taking used offerings to an area in front of a garage.
Novyandri said the deportation reflected cooperation between immigration authorities and the police in maintaining public order and supervising foreign nationals in Bali.
“We will continue to strengthen immigration supervision and maintain close coordination with law enforcement authorities, while taking firm action if violations of immigration regulations are found in the future,” he said.
He added that the action was in line with the Immigration Directorate General’s “Immigration for the People” approach, which emphasises professional, humane and firm enforcement.
The 10-year entry ban means BA will not be permitted to return to Indonesia during the period of the sanction.
The case had previously led to several developments, including BA’s detention at the airport and a purification ceremony held by the homeowner following the incident.
