JAKARTA – Indonesian immigration authorities have deported a Dutch tourist after he allegedly damaged hotel property during his stay in Jakarta, saying his actions posed a threat to public order.
The South Jakarta Immigration Office identified the man only by his initials, TAV. He had entered Indonesia on a Visa on Arrival (VoA) for a holiday.
According to South Jakarta Immigration Office chief Winarko, the case began after hotel staff reported extensive property damage to Mampang Police. The report was later referred to immigration authorities for further action.
During the investigation, immigration officers found that TAV had allegedly damaged a range of hotel property, including chairs, drinking glasses, room lights, paintings, a water dispenser and other furnishings.
Officials said the tourist stayed at two hotels in Jakarta, located in the Menteng and Tendean areas.
Following the investigation, immigration authorities concluded that TAV had committed acts deemed harmful to public security and public order under Article 75(1) of Indonesia’s Immigration Law. He was subsequently placed in immigration detention pending his removal from the country.
TAV was deported through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on 20 July, the immigration office said.
The South Jakarta Immigration Office said it will continue working closely with police, local governments, accommodation providers and other stakeholders to monitor the activities of foreign nationals in Indonesia.
Officials said the cooperation is intended to help maintain public order while ensuring foreign visitors comply with Indonesian laws throughout their stay.
