If you’re heading to Bali, you might notice something completely unexpected on the beach this month: pop-up immigration booths right next to baby sea turtles.
After a recent agency scandal, Bali’s top officials are pulling out all the stops to win back tourists’ trust. Their strategy? A massive, island-wide initiative to make visa and public services faster, friendlier, and far more accessible—starting directly on the sands of Kuta Beach.
This weekend, the Badung Regency Government, along with the Bali High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati), held a beach cleanup and release of baby turtles at Kuta Beach.
The coastal conservation-themed event, held at the Baruna Disaster Shelter, kicked off the 2026 Public Service Bazaar series, initiated by the Bali High Prosecutor’s Office.
The pop-up series comes as leaders in Bali are seeking to restore tourists’ confidence in immigration and government services after a recent scandal.
The mission is to make immigration and public services used by tourists more accessible. The turtle hatching release and the community beach clean-up were a way to help showcase a united front and to create a public presence for tourists to see work in action.
The event was attended by Bali’s most important political figures, including the Regent of Badung Wayan Adi Arnawa, Deputy Regent Bagus Alit Sucipta, Badung Regional People’s Representative Council Speaker I Gusti Anom Gumanti, and Bali High Prosecutor’s Office Head Setiawan Budi Cahyono.
The public service bazaar was officially opened by Bali Governor Wayan Koster himself.
Speaking to reporters, Regent Adi Arnawa shared his gratitude for the collaborative approach and highlighted how these kinds of events also help promote Bali as a clean and sustainable tourist destination.
He shared, “I express my appreciation to the Head of the Bali High Prosecutor’s Office and all staff for initiating this initiative. The synergy established not only brings public services closer to the community but also demonstrates concrete actions to maintain environmental cleanliness. This type of collaboration is excellent and deserves to be continued in the future.”
He added, “The most important thing is how public services can truly reach more people and tourists. If public enthusiasm is high, activities like this would be very good if they were held regularly.”
Governor Koster praised the initiative as a way of bringing together public services with environmental conservation efforts to promote Bali’s tourism sector.
He noted, “I greatly appreciate the Bali High Prosecutor’s Office’s initiative to combine public service with environmental cleanliness. In my opinion, as a global tourism destination, Bali requires increasingly professional public services, along with a commitment from all stakeholders to maintaining environmental cleanliness to maintain Bali’s image in the eyes of tourists and the international community.
The Head of the Bali High Prosecutor’s Office, Setiawan Budi Cahyono, said the new integrated service bazaar aims to make it easier for the public to access various government services under one roof.
He explained, “This activity demonstrates the synergy between agencies in providing fast, accessible, transparent, and high-quality public services. This collaboration is expected to make it easier for the public to access various government services in one place.”
He confirmed that through the initiative, the public can access various services, such as population administration, police, immigration, free legal consultations, health services, BPJS Health, banking, evidence return, and payment of traffic fines.
The integrated service bazaar is part of a longer-term mission to level up public services to both Indonesian residents and foreigners in Bali, whether tourists or international residents.
Efforts to date have also included pop-up immigration offices in shopping malls and increased security patrols in top tourism destinations.
Over the coming months tourists in Bali may see more of these kinds of high profile public events involving the island’s top leaders. If you see a big crowd of people, including the media, at an attraction or on the beach, this could be why.
