A foreigner fled when immigration officers attempted to check him during a patrol in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, prompting officers to give chase and detain two foreigners over immigration violations. The man was identified as a Nigerian national.
The patrol began at around 8 p.m. on Thursday (August 27), covering Ubud and Sanur, two areas with high levels of foreign activity. The operation was carried out by the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement team from the Denpasar Immigration Office.
In Ubud, officers first coordinated with Ubud Police before checking a number of bars, nightclubs and other entertainment venues.
During the patrol, officers received information about two Nigerian nationals who were believed to have immigration issues. The pair were located at an entertainment venue, where officers proceeded to check their immigration documents.
One of the men suddenly ran from the scene to avoid the inspection. Officers gave chase and managed to detain him.
A check of immigration records found that one of the two foreigners had overstayed by 379 days, while the other could not produce immigration documents.
Both were taken to the Denpasar Immigration Office for further examination.
Officers also spoke with business operators in Ubud about their role in supporting immigration monitoring and reporting potential violations.
Meanwhile, a second team carried out a similar patrol in Sanur after coordinating with South Denpasar Police. Officers checked coffee shops, bars, nightclubs and other entertainment venues, but found no immigration violations.
The patrol was part of the Denpasar Immigration Office’s ongoing efforts to monitor the presence and activities of foreigners, particularly in areas with high levels of foreign activity.
Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Ramdhani, welcomed the operation and said immigration monitoring should continue to be carried out in a measured and humane manner.
“Humane treatment remains a priority in carrying out our duties. However, when violations are found, immigration officers must act firmly, professionally and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” Ramdhani said.
