BULELENG, Bali – A 68-year-old French national identified by the initials PHT has been deported from Indonesia after overstaying his immigration permit by 481 days.
PHT previously held a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) for investment purposes. His permit was valid until April 18, 2025.
He was deported through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) at 4:55 p.m. local time, under the supervision of officers from the Singaraja Immigration Office.
Head of the Singaraja Immigration Office Anak Agung Gde Kusuma Putra said PHT claimed he had applied to extend his ITAS in March 2025 through a third party.
However, the extension process was not completed, causing his permit to expire while he remained in Indonesia without a valid immigration permit.
“Arranging the process through a third party does not remove the foreign national’s obligation to ensure that their immigration permit remains valid. Once the permit expires and the person remains in Indonesia, immigration regulations still apply,” Gde Kusuma Putra said.
Immigration authorities recorded PHT as having overstayed for 481 days, from April 18, 2025, to August 12, 2026.
PHT had previously claimed that the third party handling his permit extension may have been negligent or had deceived him. However, immigration authorities said this did not remove his responsibility to ensure that his permit remained valid while he was in Indonesia.
Gde Kusuma Putra said immigration enforcement applies to all foreign nationals who violate Indonesian immigration regulations.
PHT was subject to Administrative Immigration Action in the form of deportation and has been proposed for inclusion on Indonesia’s immigration blacklist.
Under Article 78(3) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, a foreign national who overstays for more than 60 days may be subject to deportation and other immigration measures.
