Here at The Bali Sun, we are all for action-packed vacation itineraries that enable tourists to get an adrenaline fix, deep dive into culture, and be social butterflies.

We love to be active and out there experiencing all that this island has to offer. It has to be said, though, that the whole idea of a vacation is really to switch off and completely reset, and we feel that there is one very special spot in this province that enables tourists to achieve an effortless nervous system reset.

Nusa Ceningan is the smallest of Bali’s outlying Nusa Islands. Tucked between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan is just 3.9km2 and it is officially home to just over 1,500 people.

This tiny island, which is connected to Nusa Lembongan by the famous Yellow Bridge, is all too often overlooked by tourists who prefer to stay at the busier and more famous Nusa Penida.

Here at The Bali Sun, this is low-key why we love Nusa Ceningan so much. This tiny island still very much feels like a remote Indonesian island, surrounded by mangrove forests and seaweed farms. This is the perfect place to totally switch off and reset.

One of the big reasons why life on Nusa Ceningan feels less overstimulating than other parts of Bali Province is that there are no four-wheeled vehicles on the island.

The whole island is only explorable on foot, with a few mopeds used by locals. The island is divided into six traditional villages: Parangan Tengah, Ambentiying, Ceningan Tengah, Anggrek, Batumelawang, and Gili Mekarnadi, which are home to families who have lived on this island for generations. Tourists who want to stay on Nusa Ceningan first have to take a fast boat from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan, and most hotels and private villas will pick guests up from the Yellow Bridge free of charge.

The most famous beach on Nusa Ceningan is Blue Lagoon, and it’s well worth a visit. This spot is seldom crowded and, as its name suggests, is home to some of the most perfectly clear waters in all of Indonesia.

The rocky cove is super picturesque and is the destination of choice for tourists who want a dreamy sunset view while on vacation in Nusa Ceningan.

Nusa Ceningan’s Secret Beach is another must-visit for tourists holidaying on the island.

This is the ideal spot to while away a day. The beach offers soft white sand, perfect for sunbathing, and the high crashing waves are mesmerising. Set after set, the high white wash waves hit the beach, and it never gets old!

Nusa Ceningan may be small, but tourists are spoilt for choice in terms of accommodation.

This is one of the reasons why we here at The Bali Sun are so surprised that the island gets overlooked so often. With perfect beaches, incredible accommodation, and no crowds, why aren’t more people traveling here for a dreamy island vacation?!
